Dear IHM Family,
How is your prayer life?
Prayer is more than an exercise of communicating with God. We lift our minds and hearts to God so that God might take over our entire being, and thus, fully united with Him, God acts within us and through us. The goal of our life of prayer is to increase our awareness that Jesus lives with us always!
Yes, the pinnacle of our life of prayer is our communion with Jesus in the Eucharist. Through this sacrament, we receive Jesus himself, and He remains with us. Our life of prayer and our union with Jesus will lead us to fruitful service to others.
Is attending Mass without knowing Jesus Christ possible? The church acknowledges a difference between missing Mass for a grave reason or for something over which you had no control, and the act of willfully choosing not to go to Mass. The former is not a mortal sin, the latter is. Finally, the faithful who, because of sickness, disability or some other serious cause, are prevented from taking part, should as best they can unite themselves with the celebration of Sunday Mass from afar, preferably by means of the readings and prayers for that day from the Missal, as well as through their desire for the Eucharist. (Dies Domini, Pope John Paul II.)
The Mass attendance of all families with students receiving First Holy Communion and Confirmation will be scrutinized and observed by our catechists and priests in the coming months. May their faith journeys be blessed by listening to scripture in the Liturgy of the Word and joining the faith community in offering sincere gifts of their open hearts during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Our Children’s Faith Formation Sunday classes have met 27 times since September, 2017. Our catechists have 4 more meetings to complete their annual curriculum goals before submitting a list of students who are ready to be promoted to the next level. There will be 2 parent-student make-up sessions in June to allow students who have been absent more than 8 times to complete their catechism. Please contact your teacher directly for more information.
